Little Farmers Cay

February 7, 2014

We started the day off with a short D-Time ride to shore to look for a cave on the island.  We were told by a really nice Australian couple that the cave was a “must see” and it wasn’t hard to reach.  So we took D-Time and took off.  We weren’t disappointed.  It wasn’t a long walk (maybe ½ mile) but the trail wasn’t marked well so we started and stopped a couple of times.  We reached the cave and saw a large underground lake inside.  After we looked the cave over we left and were close enough to the Atlantic Ocean that we just continued our walk out to see the ocean.  The waves crashing against the rocks were a beautiful sight to see.

We headed back to C-Time to apply more sunscreen and then we headed into town looking for the 5Fs celebration.  We made our way to Ocean Cabin (which was the sight of the town festivities) and ordered lunch.  Daniel went with the fried conch and I stuck with the fried chicken.  Both meals came with rice and peas (beans), mac and cheese and slaw – two bottles of water and $28.00 later, we were full.  We were able to share our lunch with some new friends we met, Chris and Robin.  They began the “cruising lifestyle” in November, so they were “newbies” like us.  Daniel and I decided to stick around and see the much acclaimed “events” for the 5Fs festival.  The “events” were a little “hokey” but we watched the men’s hairy leg contest but when they pulled out bathroom plungers and toilet paper, we decided it was time to head back to C-Time.

On our way back to C-Time we were able to see the local sailboats that are in the regatta that is scheduled for tomorrow, practice.  There are about 10 small boats (maybe 16 feet long) and they keep going around and through all of the anchored boats in the harbor.  They even went right next to shore.  It was a really neat sight to see.  Each of the boats have 2 long (about 16 feet long by about 8 inches wide) boards and as they try to go faster, at least 3 men climb on the boards to keep the boats from heeling too much so they can go faster.  It was really fun to watch.  Tomorrow is race day but I think we’ve enjoyed enough of the 5Fs Festival and we are going to continue on our journey.
