Cambridge Cay to Staniel Cay

February 3, 2014

We left our mooring ball at Cambridge Cay a little later this morning than our usual departure time. We took D-Time to shore and went on a fabulous walk through the short palm trees and under growth to Honeymoon Beach.  It was probably about a 1/2 mile and totally worth it.  A big secluded white sandy beach area.  We were the only 2 people in the world.  After that we took D-Time back and loaded up and left for Staniel Cay.  It wasn't a long way to Staniel Cay, it probably only took a couple of hours.  We found a great spot to drop the anchor and Daniel said to me the words I have been waiting a week to hear "the WiFi is working".  It is so nice to be able to catch up with family and friends.  We spent a couple of hours catching up and then headed into town.

Staniel Cay
Staniel Cay is a larger island and it has a couple of small grocery stores and a small airport.  We landed D-Time on the beach, got out and started walking, trying to find the grocery stores.  We walked in a big circle and never saw them.  Then we ran into some fellow cruisers who had been to the stores before and they were heading that way, so we followed along.  It's no wonder we missed them.  They were in small "houses".  One was in a pink house and one was in a blue house.  The blue house wasn't going to open until 4:30 in the afternoon so we went to the pink house.  I ended up buying 2 lemons, 1 lime and 2 small containers of ice cream ($13.50 total).  We ate the ice cream (it was a warm day) on our way back to D-Time.  We ran into another family of cruisers carrying a large sack of trash.  They were looking for the dump.  We had a small bag of trash with us (we were looking for a place to get rid of it) and we joined forces and all went looking for the dump.  We never actually found it - what we found was the 3rd and last "grocery store" on the island and in addition to selling items, they "accept trash".  We bought a "flat" Coke Zero and left our trash.  We made our way back to D-Time after that, passing two soldiers/policemen carrying rifles and a case of alcohol down the street.  You see some interesting things.

We wanted to go snorkeling at Thunderball Cave.  It was in one of the James Bond movies, so we had to go.  We loaded up D-Time with all of our gear and headed off.  It was really a neat snorkel adventure.  I've never done a "cave" snorkel before - it was really neat.  The cave was filled with lots of coral and lots of big, beautiful fish.  We really enjoyed the snorkel trip.
