Great Guana Cay to Little Farmer’s Cay

(I have pictures, but can't post until we have wifi again, sorry)

February 6, 2014

FINALLY we got to do some sailing.  As soon as we left the Great Guana Cay this morning the winds were perfect – 15 knots and we pulled out both sails, shut off the engine and before you know it we were going over 7 knots (that’s fast for us).  We were healed over about 20 degrees.  We were scooting along!  We made it to Little Farmer’s Cay in no time at all, probably less than 2 hours.  We wanted to go to Little Farmer’s Cay because everyone we have been running into has been telling us about the 5Fs event (First Friday in February in Little Farmers Cay Festival) so we wanted to check it out.  It turns out we are here in Little Farmers Cay with about 120 other sailboats/power boats all ready for the festivities.  The event starts tomorrow, there is a sailing regatta, lots of games on the beach (egg toss, wet t-shirt contest (I told Daniel it was okay with me if he wanted to enter it), crab race, and lots of other stuff).  We were told that there is even a chicken poop game – you have a big board with numbers on it, you let the chicken loose and whatever number it poops on, you win money (if you had bet on that particular number) – chicken poop game, only in the Bahamas.
Since we arrived a day early, we took D-Time ashore and decided to explore the island.  We ran into some other cruisers and before you know it, 6 of us were heading into “town”.  Town has a couple of small “convenience” stores filled with mostly canned goods and paper products from the U.S.  There are a couple of small eating establishments, a school, a local phone company, a paved aircraft landing strip, and a post office.  We walked the entire island in about 2 hours.  After the walk, we were both hot, so we went swimming.  Just a relaxing day in the Bahamas – wish you were here J.
